Aluminum gravity casting part converting to die casting part
aluminum gravity casting part used a metal die similar to a die casting mold. The main difference is the casting force they are used. Gravity casting process applies gravity, while aluminum die casting process applies mechanical pressure. Once we convert gravity cast part to high pressure die cast part, the sprue,running and gate systems should be adjusted. And the feature of gravity cast part obtained by sand cores may not be achieved by high pressure die casting process. However, some of such features can be obtained by slide block in die casting process.
Aluminum sand casting part converting to die casting part
Aluminum sand casting is distinguished from aluminum die casting parts. Once we convert a sand cast part into die cast one, the draft angles can be reduce from max 5 degrees to 0.5-1 degree. Becasue of the dimension precision can be increased dramatically, some featuers can be obtianed by die casting mold directly without any post machining.
Machining part converting to die casting part
Converting precision machined parts to die cast parts should take consideration of lots of issue. Commonly the mechanical property of precision machined parts are always better than that of high pressure die cast parts. However once we decide to convert, the different manufacturing processes will lead to different process design. For example, the dimension precision and tolerance should be released, casting draft angles and edge rounds should be added to the raw castings.
Aluminum extrusion part converting to die casting part
Aluminum extruded parts always have a uniform sectional view and without any draft angle. While being converted to high pressure die cast parts, the limitation of uniform section can be released, but generally the wall thickness should be increased at least up to 1.5-2 mm. Besides, draft angles and edge rounds should be added to the converting parts.
Low pressure die casting part converting to high pressure die casting one
Die casting process here refers to high pressure die casting process which is distinguished from low pressure die casting process. Low pressure die casting process can apply sand core to achieve the concave featuers of casting, and it needs much large draft angles and roundst than high pressure die casting process. Once we convert low pressure die cast part to hihg pressure die cast parts, casting structure should be studied carefully to sort out the uncastable features.
